Dr. Connie Rahakundini Bakrie

Author, Lecturer, Defense Analysts & Strategic Thinker of Indonesia

Connie Rahakundini Bakrie is an Indonesian military and security expert. She is a senior research fellow at the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS), Tel Aviv, Israel. In addition, she is also a member of the Chevening Executive Program in Democracy and Security at Birmingham University, England. Previously, she also graduated from the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) in Honolulu, Hawaii.

H.E. Teuku Faizasyah currently serves as Director General of Information and Public Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. Prior to that, He was an Ambassador Extraordinary Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Canada and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in 2014-2018. In addition, Faizasyah also was an Expert Staff for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, and the Spokesperson at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Leonard C. Sebastian

Coordinator of the Indonesia Programme at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies

Leonard C. Sebastian is Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Indonesia Programme at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS). He is author of Realpolitik Ideology: Indonesia’s Use of Military Force (Institute of Southeast Asian Studies and Cambridge University Press, 2006 and 2015) and his refereed articles have been published in the Journal of Strategic Studies, Asia Policy, Indonesia, TRaNS: Trans-Regional and -National Studies of Southeast Asia, South East Asia Research, Defence & Security Analysis, Soccer & Society, Education About Asia, China International Strategy Review, Cambridge Review of International Affairs, Southeast Asian Affairs, and Contemporary Southeast Asia.

Assoc. Prof. Dinna Prapto Raharja, Ph.D

Co-founder of Synergy Policies & Faculty member of Bina Nusantara University, Department of International Relations. 

Dinna specializes in diplomacy, international political economy and social protection. She is known for her policy-oriented research and activism, advising various government foreign policy or social protection-related programs. She received her MA & Ph.D from the Department of Political Science, Ohio State University  (2007), BA in international relations from Universitas Indonesia. She served as The Chair of Working Group on Health, Employment and Population Programmes at the Transition Team of Joko Widodo - Jusuf Kalla (2014), Indonesia's Representative to ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) 2016-2018, Committee Member for selecting the representatives at the Indonesia's National Social Security Council (DJSN) 2019-2024, Expert Team at the Task Force to Combat Syndicate of Illegal Sending of Indonesian Migrant Workers at BP2MI (2020-2021), and currently is serving as a Judge Member for Paritrana Award on National Employment Protection Programmes. 

Yuyun Wahyuningrum

Representative of Indonesia to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR)

Yuyun Wahyuningrum is a human rights defender who has been actively advocating social and humanitarian issues at the ASEAN level. She is well known for her consistency in fighting for human rights, including the rights of minority and marginalized groups, such as Rohingya Muslims, people with disabilities, and LGBTIQ. She is re-elected as as the Indonesia's Representative to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR). Wahyuningrum obtained her MA in Human Rights, from Mahidol University, Thailand and currently pursuing her PhD in Global Governance Law and Social Justice at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Jefferson is a Senior Analyst at the Indonesia Programme. His research mainly covers Indonesia’s parliamentary politics, regional elections, and foreign policy. Prior to joining the Indonesia Programme in September 2019, he obtained an M.Sc degree in Asian Studies at the S.Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) and graduated with first class honours in History at the National University of Singapore.

Jamus Lim is an associate professor of economics at ESSEC Business School. Jamus Lim worked in the World Bank serving in its Development Prospects Group and specializing in long-term macroeconomic projections from 2007 to 2014. Jamus is also a Member of Singaporean Parliament.

Dr. Yanuar Nugroho

Co-Founder & Advisor of Centre for Innovation Policy and Governance (CIPG)

Dr. Yanuar Nugroho is a senior public policy practitioner and academic with a strong  focus on innovation, social change, and development planning. Previously, he was a former Deputy Chief of Staff for Analysis and Oversight of Strategic Issues on Social, Cultural and Ecological Affairs at the Executive Office of the President, Republic Indonesia (2015-2019). Currently, in addition to being a Visiting Senior Fellow at ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute Singapore, Honorary Fellow at the University of Manchester, UK, he also serves as an advisor to several international development institutions. Dr. Nugroho received his PhD from Alliance Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester, UK.

Rahimah Abdulrahim is a tireless advocate for peace and democracy in Indonesia and the region, with 20 years of experience working to promote democracy and human rights. She is currently a Director of Public Policy for Southeast Asia at Meta, Singapore. Prior to that, She was the Chair of the Institute for Democracy and Human Rights at Habibie Center, Jakarta. Rahimah obtained her Master's degree in International Studies and Diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, United Kingdom.

Rahayu Saraswati Dhirakarya Djojohadikusumo is an Indonesian activist, politician, actress, and presenter. She was also a member of parliament at the House of Representatives of Indonesia. During her time as a member of the legislature, she fought for women and children right and against human trafficking.

Nor Lastrina Hamid is a co-founder of Singapore Youth for Climate Action. Lastrina has organised community events and worked with youths and volunteer groups for the past 10 years, Nor Lastrina Hamid has built an interest in climate issues and how people respond to climate impacts. In 2015, Lastrina co-founded Singapore Youth for Climate Action (SYCA) to engage youths in climate action or environment-related volunteerism

Nara Masista Rakhmatia

Indonesian Diplomat, Permanent Mission to the United Nations, WTO and other International Organizations

Nara Masista Rakhmatia (Nara) is an Indonesian diplomat currently assigned as a First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia for the United Nations, World Trade Organization, and Other International Organizations in Geneva, dealing mainly with labour and parliament issues as well as other additional responsibilities.

 

She joined the Ministry in 2008. She had been working on intra-regional cooperation in the Asia Pacific and Africa, including the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership (NAASP) and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) for four years, when she then served as part of the APEC Indonesia 2013 National Organizing Committee. As her first overseas assignment, she served as a Third Secretary and Second Secretary (2014-2017) at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations in New York, dealing with economic and development related issues. Prior to coming to Geneva, in 2017-2020 she was an Assistant Deputy Director for Program of Regional Organization at the Office of the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Agatha is the Executive Director of ASEAN Youth Organization (A.Y.O.), the largest youth-led organization in Southeast Asia that aims to promote youth development in the region. She is also a young peacebuilder from Indonesia who is passionate to conduct intercultural and interfaith programs. She has conducted and participated in national and international events to promote tolerance and youth development. Agatha is an International Relations graduate from Parahyangan Catholic University, Indonesia, focusing on international organizations. She was an awardee of the ERASMUS+ exchange program to TU Dortmund, Germany, and gained multicultural experiences through volunteering projects in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Colombia.

Dr. Siwage Dharma Negara

Senior Fellow at the ISEAS Yusof Ishak Institute

Dr Negara received his PhD (Economics) from the University of Melbourne, Australia. He is Co-Coordinator for the Indonesia Studies Programme and Coordinator for the Singapore APEC Study Centre at the ISEAS Yusof Ishak Institute. He is an editorial member of the Journal of Southeast Asian Economies. His research focuses on macroeconomic and development issues, industrial and trade policies with a special focus on Indonesia. Before joining the institute, he has worked as a researcher at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) and economist consultant for the World Bank Office Jakarta.

Dayu Nirma Amurwanti

Lecturer at the International Relations Department of Binus University

Dayu Nirma Amurwanti is lecturer of BINUS University focusing on Risk Analysis in International Relations also Indonesia's Trade Policies. Before, she worked as officer of the country management unit of the World Bank Indonesia in 2013 ‒ 2015.  She held a position as an operations analyst of governance and anti- corruption at World Bank Office Jakarta in 2007- 2012. Currently she is working under the Embassy of Norwegia as Program Advisor of Climate and Forest.

Covering the environment, she has interviewed key policy consultants, activists, and politicians including the Jakarta governor.

Esther Tamara

Director of Climate Programs at Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia

Esther N.S. Tamara is Director of Climate Programs at Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia. Esther leads FPCI Climate Unit to rally grassroots and civil societies to get Indonesia to commit to net-zero emissions by 2050 through collaborations with various diplomatic missions in Indonesia. In this role, she also advises various international organizations such as Global Citizen, Global Alliance on Health and Pollution, and Sustainable World Inc. on Indonesia’s climate policies.

 

Esther is also an Associate of Research & Analysis at FPCI, managing the think tank’s United States, China, and Economics portfolio. She has authored a publication with ERIA (in press) and is co-author of ASEAN-China Survey 2020 & 2021. Esther is Observer Research Foundation’s Rasina Young Fellow 2022.

He had obtained the Adhi Makayasa Medal, as the best graduate of the military academy in Indonesia. He was also graduated from the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies in S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Singapore in 2006, he continued his second Master’s Degree in Public Administration at Harvard University, the United States in 2010, and he obtained his third Master’s Degree in Leadership and Management at George H. Walker School of Business and Technology, Webster University, the United States in 2015 with Summa Cum Laude predicate. He is one of the founders of the University of Defense in Indonesia. He was also the Former Commander of the 203 Mechanized Infantry Battalion of the Indonesian Army. He had competed in the 2017 Jakarta Governor Election, and he is currently active as one of the Young Politician Leaders in Indonesia.

Irene Chan is an Associate Research Fellow with the China Programme in the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS). She received her Bachelors of Arts in History from the Nanyang Technological University’s National Institute of Education and her Master of Science in Asian Studies from RSIS. She has written commentaries for the Straits Times and RSIS. Her upcoming book chapters and journal articles on the new Chinese leadership and China’s South China Sea policy, and China’s Xinjiang Policy will be released in 2014 and 2015.

Aleksius Jemadu has been a lecturer at Pelita Harapan University since 2009. He received his Bachelor's degree in International Relations from Gadjah Mada University, MA in Social Sciences from the University of Indonesia and Ph.D. degree from the Department of Political Sciences, Katholieke Universiteit (KU) Leuven, Belgium. Aleksius was a Research Fellow at Asia Research Institute (ARI), National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2004 and at the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (currently Rajaratnam School of International Studies or RSIS), Singapore in 2005. In addition, He was also a visiting professor at the Master Program in Cultures and Development Studies (CADES) Faculty of Social Sciences KU Leuven and the University of Antwerp, Belgium in 2007.
